HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR HAIR UNDER A WIG?

When you wear a wig, one of the best decision that you can make for natural hair,  is to start a routine, and keep to it.   Natural hair needs to be cared for under the wig to prevent drying, which will prevent breakage and thinning.   Ladies that wear glueless wigs has a easy task of caring for their natural hair,  and ladies that wear wigs that are glued on needs to switch their wigs, or at least remove them every four weeks for regular hair care.  Here are some things you can do,  practice  scalp care, definitely keep hair moisturized, regular wash, trim your hair ,  reduce the tension on your hair, by making sure the style you chose isn't too tight ,  also use a wig cap, and make sure you have the correct size wig to prevent frontal and edge damages.

HOW TO PREVENT HAIR BREAKAGE UNDER YOUR WIG OR EXTENSIONS

HOW TO GROW YOU HAIR BACK FROM TRACK ALOPECIA

Alopecia is a medical terminology that is used for various hair loss.  Hair loss affects millions of people.  Most people are frustrated  because they try so many things and no results.   We are going to talk about bringing your hair back after traction,  but lets first start with the prevention of alopecica traction.   We need to stop braiding our hair so tight,  and stop braiding it in the same direction each time,  avoid pulling the hair back from the edges.   You should also avoid pulling the hair tight to do a ponytail.    These few things will have a big impact on alopecia  tracts.    These types of damage can be treated if it isn't permanent damage.  Treatment can be head massage, proper products, and by styling your hair different and more.  Your natural hair need proteins and air to heal form damages.  If you have these kinds of damages,  stop putting tension on your hair to prevent more damages. You may be wise to wear a custom wig during treatment so that you have easy access to your natural hair.   Be sure to wear extensions for the proper time 4-6 weeks no later than 8 weeks before you take them out.   This is a great time to get natural hair treatment before applying hair extensions.   You should tell the stylist to try a different braid pattern each time to avoid the damages.  It may cost a little more to go through natural hair treatment before applying the extensions,  but it will be worth it at the end.

SHAWZAE ON PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

I am so excited to share this blog with you,  because products knowledge is important to all of us.  There are all kinds of product out there to use,  but how do we determine what will work for some clients and not for others.   Products are the key to success,  it takes the work out of your services so that you can obtain what you want,  without the labor.   There are a few ways that you can determine what products  works for you salon.  You may have heard the old saying,  you can't use the same perm on everyone head,  which is true.   Products are determine by the service you offer,  so if you have the same similar clients,  with the same hair texture, and similar hair issues,  then you probably would not have to purchase too many different products.    However, if you have a mixture of clients then you will have to purchase a lot of different products,  to meet your clients needs.   The way I purchase products is based on products that meets most natural hair textures.    A stylist should know how to care for all hair textures.   When purchasing products,  know what it will do to all textures,  so if you do get a new client,  you can feel comfortable knowing that you got products for that clients as well.   A few years back,  I had a client that walked in for hair services,  and I was taken back because I didn't feel like I had products that were right for her hair texture.   I consulted with the client for what she wanted,  evaluated her hair and texture,  then book her for an appointment for another time so I could get what I needed for her.   She became a regular client,  and that taught me how important product knowledge is for all hair texture.   You just need to know that the products,  or brands that you use can benefit all textures you will be servicing.

COFFEE TALK ( THINNING AND ALOPECIA HAIR )

This conversation isn't new and you may have heard some of the information  before,  but we do want to keep the conversation going to help you stay updated.  We have so many women and men with this problem that we have to keep the conversation going.    Thinning and aloppecia  hair isn't a age thing,  because we have a lot of young women and men with this problem.

The conversation starts:  These are some of the conversations that I have had with some of my clients and friends,  so lets get the conversation started.

My hair started thinning when I started getting relaxers.........Sarah

The relaxers were probably too strong for your hair, and you should avoid having your hair relaxed until you know for sure if that is the cause of your hair loss.  I would recommend you start going to a natural hair salon so that you can get your hair healthy again,  let whoever you go know what happened, give them your hair story...........me

My hair is fine,  I guess I was born with it,  bad hair,  and it won't grow.......Mindy

When born with fine hair,  it is very important that you take special care of your hair to keep it healthy.  You should not put heavy products in your hair,  or extensions that will weigh your hair down.  If you would like longer hair,  or maybe get hair color,  get a custom wigs,  because this is not going to damage your natural hair., and also make sure you get healthy products for your natural hair.
Your hair thinning may be hereditary  but it can be healthy even if it's thin or fine ........me

My hair was taken out by a stylist,  and it's never been the same after the service....Tina

The stylist probably didst understand your hair,  and the products were probably too strong,  however,  you can get healthy hair again.   When you go to get your hair done make sure you give the stylist your hair story so that she can get a picture of the health of your hair.   A consultation and hair analysis is important......me

Join in the conversation and let talk about hair while we sip our coffee.

Shawzae is excited to share with you information that will help you in caring for you raw Indian hair.  This hair is human,  which was cut from a donas head and sold.   This hair has not been chemical treated to avoid tangles and other issues that you normally have with human hair.   When purchasing this hair,  you should know that this hair is maintenance for you the buyer and seller.   The first thing you need to know is to use good products so that way it will take a lot of the work from you.   You should start with a good shampoo,  and conditioner.   The shampoo used with this hair need to be a detangler   or you will need to use a detangler lotion or spray.   The shampoo also  need to be sulfarate free.  You should also comb the hair through with a big tooth comb gently before shampooing the hair to prevent tangles, and shampoo the hair in a downward motion  When combing the hair,  also comb from end to root,  it help to prevent you from pulling the hair out of the lace,  or weft.   Again this is human hair,  so you don't want to damage it with heat or chemical.   Always keep heat low to medium to prevent damaging the hair.   Chemical should be used sparing on this hair to prevent damage.   I hope this will help you to care for your hair and that it last you for years,

HOW TO MOVE FORWARD AFTER COSMETOLOGY SCHOOL

We are so excited when we enter into cosmetology school, and our license ensures that we are on our way to successfully meet our goals, however, this is not the case for many students.   I have met a lot of stylist that are working in different places and other business.  The reason is because a lot of stylist don't know how to do hair,  and the school doesn't teach you that.   The school teaches you the basic which include coloring, cutting,  and curling, and the academic you need to get your license.   In the real world,  you have to know more than the basic to get hired in the upper salons, or even to start your own business and other.    The stylist has to learn to do hair to succeed.  There are two options that a stylist can take to succeed (1 ) Find a salon that will allow you to be an intern so that   you can learn to do hair  (2 )You can take additional courses to learn how to do certain styles that are trending now.  As a stylist,  you may want to learn to braid hair,  or make custom wigs.  As a hair braider,  you may want to learn how to make custom wigs.   You should always put yourself in a position that you can meet today trends,  to meet the consumers demands.   As a license stylist there are so many advantages to succeed, but if you can't do hair then the options are lost.   We offer license and unlicensed student a chance to learn how to do hair.  You will learn to make custom wigs, do sew ins and braid hair at Shawzae  Design School for more information call 954-612-1982 or go to http://mdesignersinc.wixsite.com/shawzaeboutique

NATURAL HAIR CARE FOR 2017

Natural hair has always been my priority.  We have tremendous respect for the ladies that have gone natural over the past years.   I always say it doesn't matter what you wear wigs or extensions always take care of your natural hair.   Here are some tips on getting started on natural hair care,  it is nothing new,  however,  if you haven't been doing it,  this is a good time to start.

1   Always shampoo and keep your natural hair clean,  moisturize and trim,  this will help your hair growth.

2   Condition your hair in between shampooing so that your hair is getting the moisturizer it needs to grow.

3  Research the right products for your hair,  you may not believe it,  but products make a big different in hair care.  Some products take the labor out of hair care.

4   Pamper yourself and your hair by just taking a day for you and your hair. It will allow you to do extra things that you wouldn't normally do in your hair care maintenance.

Shawzae will be opening its hair braiding school soon.  We will be discussing hair care,  and signature treatments and more.  We will also be teaching you to braid hair safely.   There are two things that I see a lot of in hair braiders,  especially the ones that can braid,  I see that they braid the clients hair too tight,  and they don't stress the time frame for keeping braids in the hair.    We want to get away from those things and offer to the clients a high end hair braiding salons with lots of bells and whistle.  The most important of all is customer service and quality care.   You will learn all of this at Shawzae.

SHAWZAE NOT JUST ABOUT HAIR WE HANDCRAFT JEWELRY

I love staying busy,  so when I am not working on making custom wigs,  I am back working on my handcrafted jewelry.  When I move to Florida,  I lost my clients and market for my handcrafted jewelry,  however,  I found the passion again to work on my handcrafted jewelry.  You will see special one of a kind jewelry pieces as I continue to grow my brand Shawzae   I am following my dreams as a designer,  and I like to think of myself as crafty so I get my hands in a lot of things,  especially hair, health and beauty products.  We also started a perfume collection as well,  so whatever it is you want to do,  find time,  make time and start doing it.

HOW TO EDUCATE YOUR CLIENTS ON NATURAL HAIR CARE: SUBJECT VIXEN SEWIN OR VERTICAL SEWIN

We are so bless to have hair of every texture,  and I personally love our natural hair on all females,  so it's no wonder I want you to take care of it,  and I want to help you.  When clients come to you for a sewin, and they have no edges or thin edges, it is our responsibility to educate then on what works and don't work.   We want to take care of those edges,  by educating the client that the style may not be appropriate for her edges,  and you can suggest the vixen or vertical sewin that will elevate pressure on her edges.   The vixen or vertical sewin will allow you to leave hair out,  and doing so it takes the pressure off the weak area  and put it in the stronger area.  The vixen or vertical sewin look very natural,  and it will allow the clients to continue taking care of their edges.   You can suggest products to your clients such as the edge control to keep the edges flat so that your client will have a flawless look.   We will be teaching vixen sewin which is also known as the vertical sewin to our students at Shawzae.    This is a natural hair care tip to prevent more damages to thin edges or to protect someone with no edges.   Educating your clients is very important in the hair business,  and it's something that we all have to do to stop damaging natural hair.   Vixen or vertical sew in can be done on short hair as well.  Let's learn to love natural hair.

HOW TO CARE FOR BRAIDED HAIR WITH EXTENSIONS

The first thing to remember is not to leave braids in for more than 4-6 weeks,  secondly educate your clients that tighter is not better.  Braiding hair too tight and keeping braids in too long will damage your natural hair.  Now, let's talk about how to care for braids with extensions.   Most people do not want to wash their hair while they have braids because they believe that it will fizz up,  however, washing and conditioning your hair two weeks after you get your braids will help eliminate dryness and  help to keep your hair follicles strong.  If you are concern with hair frizzing,  wear a stocking cap or wig cap for thirty minutes to lay down the hair,  make sure the cap that you use is breathable.
Applying a small amount to the scalp daily will also help to keep hair follicles from looking dry, dull, and lifeless and will keep your hair from thinning when the braids are removed.  There are a lot of strong ladies coming out allowing you to see what happens when you don't take care of your hair. Letting someone braid your hair too tight because you want it to last for two months is definitely a no,  or just leaving your hair in braids for 2 or 3 months to save money is definitely a no.  Braids are beautiful so let keep them looking beautiful and healthy by washing, and conditioning our hair.  You may not know this but products are another key factor in taking care of your hair,  so put good in to get good out.

Note:  Our hair braiding school will start in a couple of months,  and we are here to teach you how to braid hair to prevent hair loss.   There is a technique to safe braiding.  If you have any question leave me a comment or email me at emurray310@gmail.com    Hair braiding is in our future and has been in our past for generations,  so it's not going anywhere,  so building safe braiding habits and natural hair care is a most.

Look at this picture,  the hair is braided too tight,
                                              so lets not do this.

Natural Hair Care and Custom Wigs For The Fall Season

Fall and winter can be brutal to our natural hair,  creating dryness,  brittleness and thinning which will cause hair loss.   We also have some trending custom style wigs for the fall.   These custom wigs can help relieve tension on the natural hair.  I read a few days ago wigs are becoming the new extensions.  A lot of ladies are wearing wig now to relieve stress on their natural hair.  Here are some tips to caring for the natural hair,   because our skin gets so dry in the fall and winter,  the main thing to do with natural hair is to keep it clean and moist.   Jojoba oil is a powerful  remedy that has been used for hundreds of years, it has a powerful effect on hair growth.   Saw Palmetto is known to block  formation of dihydrotesterone which kills hormone that kill hair follicles.  Rosemary  with almond  or coconut oil is a great health provider for natural hair and scalp.  Eumi oil is another oil that is highly recommended  for the natural hair and scalp.   Remember the best way to take care of natural hair is to keep it clean and scalp moisturize.  For constant styles and color changes,  you may want to wear a custom wig to relieve the stress off the natural hair.

SHAWZAE ON CUSTOMER SERVICE AND RESOURCING YOUR HAIR

Customer service is one of the most important aspect of any business.   In business,  you will have problems occurring at time,  but it's what you do after the problem has occurred.  I was told once that it's not what happen,  but how you handle it afterwards  that matter to the customers.
Lets's talk about resourcing your hair,  I am a wig designer so I have to find the best quality hair that I can afford for my customers.   One of the things,  I discovered in this process is that some of the business owners do diminish the quality of hair for other business owners.   I make it my business to read review on other businesses to see what their customers are saying about their business and the quality of hair that they are getting from them.  I realized that no matter how much money you pay for custom wigs,  or regardless of how much people tend to market the products as the best,  sometime they fall short.   As a customer,  I am looking for quality hair for me, and my customers.  I want to pass onto them quality hair,  and affordability.   I personally will never pay over $250 for any type of hair no matter what the company say.   I will never charge my customer any more money than I would pay myself,  and I am going to tell you why.   One of the reasons are if you don't care for your hair it's going to go bad no matter how much money you paid.  Second reason is in the nape of your neck,  you going to sweat because you have the hair coming down your back,  which mean it's going to tangle.   Human hair gets tangle,  so if you are purchasing human hair,  then you should know that it's going to get tangle unless it is processed so that it doesn't which  mean that they have put something on the hair.   You should think of human hair as your own natural hair,  which get tangle and matted if not care for.   Third  reason is that company mislead you about human hair,  and the reasons that some hair don't work out for the customers is because the human hair it self may not be good quality hair,  even though  it's human hair.  A  business owner should know that these problems are going to occur,  and when it dose give the best customer service that is possible,  and don't overcharge for your products,  when you know that the products is not as you say,  or put down other business owners.   We should also remember that even when you do this there are some people that you just can't get through or help.

THE BEST MOISTURIZERS FOR NATURAL HAIR

Ladies, regardless of the hair texture all hair need moisturizers unless you have an oily scalp.   A lot of women have dry hair,  including some men,  and could benefit from a great hair moisturizer.  I heard a lot of women,  even men complain about dull and dry hair.  If you have 4C hair,  it's especially  true because if you have kinker hair ( tightly coiled )   it is drier.  There are other ethnic  groups that have kinky hair other than Black Americans,  so this is why I say all hair texture.  When your hair is kinky or has kinks it is harder for your scalp natural oil to travel  down to the strands.   There are people with straight hair that has a dry scalp.  The hair patterns can help explain  why your hair has a very low shine.  When the hair is properly moisturize the hair is healthy.   There are  several great products on the market,  one thing you want to remember is the oils which are good sealant.  (1) Shea products,   (2) Olive oil products (3) Coconut oils products and (4)  Macadamia oil products because these are all natural oils and keep skin and hair moisturize.  I created a serum for the hair with coconut and olive oil mixed with Rosemary.   Rosemary is great for the hair in keeping it healthy,  so it makes for a great product.  You can mix and make your own natural moisturizer for your hair as I did.  Learn to love your natural hair.
